A little more information for my customers about how we feed our birds, where the feed comes from, and how to choose your own poultry feed.
We were very sad to hear the news a while back that our favorite mill in North Little Rock had sold out to Cargill, and although we were told “nothing would change”, we were wise not to believe it.
Cargill’s feed is not satisfactory to us, that is all I am at liberty to say.
We found a better company locally that will make our feed to our specifications (we started with a tried & true formula and added just a tad more nutrition to make the BEST feed we’ve ever seen -- the birds LOVE it, they don’t waste it (like they will inferior feeds), there is no need to add supplements because it has it all!
OUR FEED IS NOT HOMEMADE! It is custom manufactured by a professional feed mill.
Big companies like Cargill, Purina....what do they really know about feeding your poultry? Yes, they analyze feed.....they also can add “junk” ingredients without your knowledge and claim something totally different.
We can speak highly of our feed because we SEE the results daily!
The birds grow bigger without the leg problems that can be seen when birds grow too quickly, like the way commercial broilers are fed. Egg production will increase while not stressing the hen unduly. Viability of hatching eggs is increased. Nutrition of the eating eggs is increased. The birds eat slower - they ENJOY what they are eating.
One of our helpers, while moving our feed, accidentally busted a bag and she said it smelled so good, she wanted to taste it. I would not recommend eating products designed and marketed for animals, but our helper tried the feed and she said it tasted just as wonderful as it smells!
The starter crumble size flows through feeders better than larger feed, and is appropriately sized for almost any hatchling EXCEPT for button quail, who are marble-sized at hatch.
Our feed is fresh, we store it short-term only and know that it is kept dry so mildew or contamination from bugs or rats is virtually impossible.
OUR FEED IS NON-MEDICATED! It is hard to find high protein starter or game bird feed that doesn’t have antibiotics added -- these chemicals make the meat and eggs from birds fed this feed tainted and not suitable for human consumption. It also makes eggs less viable and can have an adverse affect on fertility.
Why buy something that can HARM YOU if you eat meat or eggs from your birds?
Why feed product to your birds that LESSENS FERTILITY? (If it lessens fertility, it hurts the rest of the bird.)
The scoop on medicated feed is that like with current events in human medicine, if you overuse antibiotics you will create unstoppable disease/illnesses in your birds.
